For a few years I have had the dream of starting a seed accelerator in Reykjavik, Iceland, my home town. After having read stories of people like Brad Feld and David Cohen, who launched a Tech-stars program in town in the middle of nowhere, (Boulder, Colorado), managed to build one of the most known accelerators out there, TechStars, I couldn’t help but wonder if the same would be possible in Iceland.
After having talks with amazing people and mentors from other seed accelerators like Alastair Bell at SeedCamp, Alex Farcet at StartupBootcamp and Patrick Riley at TechStars - I firmly believe that the seed accelerator model can be done repeatedly with successful batches anywhere in the world.
Following efforts of many people and continuous work over the past year I´m happy to announce that today we are five days (May 7th, 2012) away from our first Seed Accelerator deadline in Iceland with the program StartupReykjavik (May 7th, 2012). It feels unreal.
Already we have received the support of 40+ mentors that are willing to give their free-time, share their knowledge, network and experience in helping the startups to become more likely to achieve their dreams.
If you either know about a great team that you think should belong in an accelerator or have a startup on your own I encourage you to take action and apply to become part of the first batch of StartupReykjavik. Apply here
