Beginning of StartupReykjavik

Yesterday, Brad Feld, founder of TechStars agreed to have a mentorship session with all the teams in StartupReykjavik Summer-batch of 2012. Brad talked about his former past behind Foundry group, former investments and overall fantastic mentorship advice for all the startups participating.

The talk was very inspiring as well as the mentor advice he gave to some of the teams. A few points I think stood out and I wanted to share.

1. Datapoints.

You should think of everything around you as a piece of data. If you are a mentor, and you hear a person talk about his startup, you are giving an advice from only one datapoint.

When Brad was giving his advice, he almost always talked about his advice being built upon this single datapoint he is receiving from the pitch.

2. Fullfilling life

„Spend as much time as possible with PEOPLE you love in a PLACE you want to be on a THING you are passionate about.“ -Brad Feld, StartupReykjavik, 2012, June 1st

3. Work on your passion

If your in a situation between picking what your most passionate about or another idea that sounds smarter to mentors. Go with passion. Your more likely to succeed with constant pivots along the way with something that you love to do, rather then working on stuff you dont like. Besides its also more fun!
